IU Geriatrics Welcomes New Geriatrics Fellows
As new geriatrics fellows, Gordana Gataric, MD, Vijaya Sirigirireddy, MB, and Yusef Hazimeh, MD, are meeting with our General Internal Medicine & Geriatrics faculty and staff members, learning their way around the geriatrics clinical sites, and getting oriented to the customary things that a new job brings.
Dr. Gataric most recently practiced with Advanced Healthcare Associates, a local group practice specializing in geriatric care in outpatient and inpatient settings. Her experiences there motivated her to seek formal training in geriatrics, and she plans to eventually add that certification to her 2002 certification in internal medicine.
Dr. Sirigirireddy recently completed an internal medicine residency in the Department of Medicine at Michigan State University’s Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. She described a geriatric rotation as introducing her to the special needs of an aging population. She is interested in doing a combined Geriatrics Oncology Fellowship.
Dr. Hazimeh joins IU Geriatrics after completing an internal medicine residency in 2006 at the State University of New York's Medical University at Syracuse.
The new fellows join Padma Chimata, MD, who is beginning the third year of a combined Geriatrics Rheumatology Fellowship. This year her training focus is rheumatology in addition to some geriatrics clinical experiences. |

Congratulations to Principal Investigator Teresa Damush, PhD, who has been awarded a $775,000 grant for her VA Health Services Research & Development Investigator-Initiated Research (IIR), “Adapting Tools to Implement Stroke Risk Management to Veterans.” Co-PI on the 3-year project is Linda Williams, MD.
The IIR program enables VA clinicians and social scientists to pursue their personal research interests while advancing HSR&D priorities and contributing to the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of VA health care. Dr. Damush’s new award complements her work as leader of the Implementation Core and as a member of the Dissemination Core for the VA Stroke Quality Enhancement Research Initiative.
