The six-lined racerunner is the mascot
for GOCAR, the Gero-Informatics Operation
at the Center for Aging Research.

An Indiana native, this sun-loving lizard was first reported by Linnaeus (1766). A scaled reptile with six stripes, the lizard is both a carnivore and an omnivore, has a length between 6 and 9.5 inches and is one of the speediest lizards on earth. The six-lined racerunner has been found traveling at up to 18 miles per hour!

GOCAR wishes to thank Edwin Eugene (Gene) Ott, an amateur herpetologist, writer, and nature photographer who has provided permission for his photographs to be reproduced at this Web site.  Gene developed and maintains the South Carolina Reptiles and Amphibians Web site .  He was named 2004 Artist-In-Residence by the South Carolina State Park Service.  (Reference: http://www.neoperceptions.com/eeobio.htm )
